USA • Smithers Pira announced that the Digital Print for Packaging conference is heading to Chicago, IL from 7-8 September. The 2016 program will show brand owners, converters, printing equipment suppliers and packaging designers how they can capitalize on this quickly evolving technology.
USA • Pamarco appointed Tabatha McDonald to its technical service department, which is responsible for analysis of customer anilox conditions and providing suggestions to ensure each anilox operates efficiently and delivers a low cost of ownership, the company said.

USA • A new study reports that demand for pouches in the USA will grow 4.4% per year through 2020 to USD 10.1 billion, driven primarily by the introduction of pouch packaging into new markets and the integration of high value features, such as resealable closures and spouts, in more mature markets.
The report said stand-up pouch formats will continue to grow in popularity, since the greatest opportunities lie in previously popular rigid packaging applications

POLAND • Mondi Group has signed an agreement to acquire the SIMET S.A. corrugated plant located in Grabonóg, near Poznań. The plant produces a wide range of flexo printed packaging including American cases, die-cut and multipoint folder-glued boxes. The acquisition is subject to Polish competition clearance and other customary conditions.
USA • MacDermid Printing Solutions announced it launched a new brand image as well as created a new organizational structure within the company. MacDermid Printing Solutions now becomes part of MacDermid Performance Solutions and will be renamed MacDermid Graphics Solutions to more accurately reflect its core business.
SWITZERLAND • The Dow Chemical Company (DOW) announced a business development agreement with Nordmeccanica SpA to advance solutions for the flexible packaging industry by combining adhesive development with machine pioneering that target new technologies for faster commercialization to market. The companies plan to highlight the collaboration to accelerate packaging innovation at drupa 2016.

JAPAN • Toyobo announced its latest innovation is the Cosmolight Z range, available for analog and digital. The plates excel in the ease of handling, the washout process and transferring ink, according to the company. It offers more convenience in prepress and can be very effective in meeting the increasing print quality demands.
The plates are a good fit with AV Flexologics plate making machines, the company said
LUXEMBOURG • Doneck Network announced it will be taking part in Proflex for the fifth time in 2016. Its German-speaking sales team will inform trade visitors at the exhibition booth in Stuttgart about its latest products and innovations, including its certification to DIN EN ISO 22000 Hygiene.
TANZANIA • Flexofit GmbH of Germany is holding its Pre-drupa Flexofit Seminar in Dar Es Salaam on 17 March. International industry experts from Chespa, Du Pont de Nemours, Esko, Renzmann, Tesa and Windmöller & Hölscher will present insights and developments around the flexo printing process and products.
USA • A new company, Epac has been launched to focus on the growing short-run, multiple SKU, quick-turn flexible packaging market. A joint partnership between Arion Partners and Emerald Packaging, the company announced it would begin operations in Madison, Wisconsin in April.
POLAND • Lesko Engineering company announced its flexography industry solutions are available in all countries under the Lesko Engineering brand name. The company announced expansion of its global sales network based on authorized dealers operating in particular markets. It said that all contracts with present customers, as well as orders being already completed, remain in force.
ITALY • Omet plans to present its new Varyflex V2 Offset 850 with Electron Beam drying system at drupa this spring. A modular machine that combines flexo and offset printing, with the opportunity for further customisation, it’s designed and built for the packaging sector according to Omet.

GERMANY • Erhardt+Leimer held its annual conference on 22 January at the Chamber of Commerce and Trade in Augsburg and announced it has experienced steady growth since 2009. The company reported a turnover of about EUR 160 million in 2015, representing growth of 10%.

UK • Xaar introduced its new Xaar 1002 GS40 for UV applications. The new printhead with five levels of greyscale capability can be used for printing UV spot varnish and for applications requiring a high laydown at higher print speeds, Xaar said.
High build, varnish and textured effects can be added to labels, packaging, graphics and wood laminate using this printhead, the company said
