Enulec – ESA solutions to improve product quality in gravure printing

German company Enulec offers custom designed solutions to electrostatic related problems. The product range includes ESA systems (standard top loading, maintenance free top loading, core charging and side loading systems) which have helped customers in the gravure printing industry to achieve high quality print standards along with high productivity and maximum standards of safety. In addition to this, electrostatic discharging systems assist users in the printing and plastics processing industries to eliminate static charges in devices such as winders, slitters and laminating machines, to ensure smooth and safe production processes (Hall N2 Stand A212).

Discharge systems

LDS-PRO is a new discharge system with 24 V input voltage The intensity of this discharge bar can be automatically adjusted to the respective application, thus allowing for material-optimised discharging. The system can be expanded with the intelligent Enulec QM control for realtime display of static values with data capture and storage for providing management with static safety information.

System for inline static measurement

 

Inline static measurement working together with Enulec active antistatic bars are a solution for the entire converting process from the manufacturing of the film through printing and converting (Source: Enulec).

The inline system offers new possibilities for process optimization and an increase in safety during production. Substrates of all types are analysed for electrostatic charge in an inline process and the results so measured are recorded. When a pre-selectable warning threshold has been reached, the system provides a signal to the operator and provides information concerning the critical state of any static electrical charge which is present. The equipment further provides a signal contact to the machine control so offering optimum control over the production process.

ESA Roto Film PRO enables gravure printers to safely print onto film with an exclusive capacitance free technology that effectively penetrates ESA through all types of film substrates with a dynamically balanced charge program. With its capacity-free high voltage generator and higher-frequency voltage superposition, ESA Roto Film pro counteracts the effect of charge buildup. This ensures constant ESA performance even under difficult printing conditions and with different film substrates. Capacity-free high voltage generation on the impression roller achieves the best print results and considerably reduces wastage and set-up times in a gravure press. This unique technology fully breaks up unwanted electric double layers and eliminates disruptive static charges. A further Enulec innovation is the optional tachometric compensation to automatically control ESA intensity dependent on web speed, independent of the operator.

Gravure printing is characterized particularly by its outstanding quality of print which has been further improved by the Enulec ESA Direct Charging side loading system. This technology is integrated into the products of worldwide leading machine manufacturers and is offered to gravure printers as a complete turnkey package. The distinctive feature of this fluid transmission system is the simplicity of its current transmission to the ESA style impression roller. Safe and fully controlled charging of the impression roller is ensured, even in the event of significant dirt contamination, and the system lends itself to the use of inexpensive impression rollers and sleeves.

Special ESA Top Loading

The main feature of the Special Top Loading system for gravure printing is a virtually maintenance-free, air assisted charge bar. Compared to the charge bars with open arrays of charging pins used in the past, this new and innovative technology offers the benefit that frequent cleaning is no longer necessary. This is achieved due to a special charge bar construction in which the charging pins are bedded completely into a small tube where they cannot be contaminated by particles of ink or dust. Purged by slightly pressurised air a build-up of dirt due to ink or substrate dust is prevented.
