SWITZERLAND • Bobst announce the first beta site installation of the digital sheet-fed press for corrugated board. Designed to deliver four-colour digital post-print directly onto a broad range of uncoated and coated corrugated media, the digital press offers both personalization and speed, on short-run and high volume work.
Moreover, the second beta test site chosen by Bobst is Schumacher Packaging in Ebersdorf, Germany. The installation of the system is already running and the production should start at the end of the month .
In addition, the digital sheet-fed press facilitates variable-data printing at speeds of up to 00 m/min (656.2 fpm) and can handle sheets up to a maximum size of 1300 x 2100 mm (51.2” x 82.7”).
Working with Kodak Stream Inkjet imaging technology, Bobst already has produced the first credible digital solution for industrial scale corrugated box printing. The Kodak technology not only delivers vivid colour reproduction and very high print resolutions, it also utilizes food compliant inks, a key issue for packaging manufacturers in many sectors.
The site chosen for the first beta installation is the Model AG plant in Weinfelden, Switzerland, which is also the production and management hub of the CHF 700 million turnover Model Group.
Philippe Milliet, Head of Business Unit Sheet-fed of Model, said: “For corrugated packaging makers, it bridges the gap between high-volume flexo printing and the lower capacity digital systems available up until now. Furthermore, the press has been designed to integrate into the typical high-volume post-print production environments of the corrugated industry. For our customers, it means they can offer their clients more flexibility and the reactivity to meet dynamic consumer demands, by introducing new products with versioning, mass customization and personalization.”
