USA • Flint Group announced the acquisition of American Inks and Coatings (AIC) based in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. This acquisition combines two suppliers of inks and coatings to the North American packaging industry, creating a strategic position in the paper and board packaging segment and in the flexible packaging segment, the Flint Group said.
USA • Clondalkin Flexible Packaging announced it invested in a new, high-speed flexographic printing press at its Orlando, Florida facility. Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Orlando is a die-cut manufacturer and converter in the North American flexible packaging industry for the bakery, beverage, dairy and coffee markets.

THE NETHERLANDS • Goss International and DG press announced a new partnership. As part of this agreement, Goss has acquired DG press’ Thallo product line, expanding its web offset packaging portfolio.
INDIA • The multi-function machine 1-TBR Compact from H.C. Moog reached the end of its journey at Hyderabad. From May on, it supplements the machine fleet of Pragati Pack Private Ltd. The company is a subsidiary of the Pragati group in India and specialises in the packaging market.

NIGERIA • The Flexofit GmbH successfully held its first Flexofit Seminar in Lagos on 25 April. Presentations on developments in flexo printing from international industry experts from companies presented to a local audience: managers from companies like SPN, VeePee Group and Coca-Cola (Nigerian Bottling Company) amongst other representatives of the Nigerian packaging industry.

GERMANY • The German announced it is offering advanced courses on flexography in English from 13-17 June flexographic technological association in Stuttgart. According to the association, the training course introduces flexography and other printing methods on a beginner level, but then turns to advanced levels of prepress with its sections of repro and plate making.
USA • Hybrid Software announced the installation of the 400th seat of Packz, its PDF editor for packaging and label workflows. The milestone order for Hybrid has come from an Italian player in the flexographic market, Z Due.

GERMANY • Janoschka announced that following the merger of the Kippenheim and Ismaning sites, the 60% of shares held in Repro-Form have been transferred to Bernhard Volmer, the company’s founder and a long-standing shareholder.
UK • Innovia Group announced an agreement to sell its Cellophane business and assets to Futamura Chemicals. The deal is expected to complete on or before 30 June. Based in Nagoya, Japan, Futamura is a manufacturer of plastic and cellulose films, principally servicing the food packaging industry.

AUSTRALIA • Amcor announced an agreement to acquire Alusa, the largest flexible packaging business in South America for the purchase price of USD 435 million. Alusa, which includes Alusa (Chile), Peruplast (Peru), Aluflex (Argentina) and Flexa (Colombia), is owned by Techpack and Nexus Private Equity.
BELGIUM • FTA Europe has announced it has selected the winners for its first ever FTA Diamond awards ceremony. The judges from Benelux (Alain de Blander), France (Emmanuel Chaud), Italy (Stefano d’Andrea), Spain (Xavier Boadas), and the UK (David Galton) met at the FTA Europe head office in Brussels.
USA • Hammer Packaging installed a Mark Andy Performance Series P7 press along with a Rotoflex VLI 440 finishing system. The new 17-inch, 10-color P7 press includes combination hot air drying/UV curing, a Mark Andy Quick Change Die Cut unit, web turnbar, cold foil and lamination capabilities.

CHINA • China has now adopted a new strict VOC emission control policy that will also have consequences for the printing industry, especially the huge volume of gravure printing.

GERMANY • The packaging fair interpack is cooperating with the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) to extended its WorldStar Awards to include the category “Save Food Packaging Awards”.
UK • Flexible packaging group Uni Packaging announced it’s supplying coffee roaster Purssells London with pouches for its speciality blends. The company manufactures the pouches from a PE/aluminium laminate, incorporating a tear notch, re-close zipper and venting valve.
