SWEDEN • Marvaco Oy announced it acquiried the operations of Kostym Designindustries AB, which specialise in packaging artwork design and operate in Central Sweden. Kostym, operating in Karlstad, has consumer goods experience and high-level technological knowledge, the company said.

USA • The Flexographic Technology Association (FTA) awarded Mac Papers Envelope Converters (MPEC), a Florida-based sister company of Mac Papers, Inc., with five 2016 FTA Awards in recognition of envelope print excellence. The awards were issued during the organization’s 2016 FTA Award Show, held in Texas.

USA • Nestlé confirmed that Michelman’s Digiprime 4431, 050, 680, and Michem In-Line Primer 030 is compliant with its inks guidance document. The document refers to the Nestlé Packaging Safety and Compliance Program and specifically addresses printing inks, lacquers, coatings and varnishes used on Nestlé packaging materials and is designed to prevent packaging incidents and recalls.

USA • The Comexi Group announced the sale of a nine station gravure press to American Packaging Corporation (APC) to be operational in February 2017. ITALY • The Italian Manufacturers’ Association of Machinery for the Graphic, Converting and Paper Industry (ACIMGA ) reports that the sector of printing, converting and package manufacturing machines for any kind of industrial use had an excellent 2015.

BELGIUM • The European Flexographic Industry Association (EFIA) awarded a 2016 “Gold Award” for sustainable manufacturing and product innovation to Asahi Photoproducts for its pinning technology for clean transfer. The technology can improve ink transfer, reduce dot gain by reducing ink filling at the mid-tone area and can improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

SPAIN • Allservices Aufer, a service, spare parts and consumables alternative in the rotogravure cylinder production market has made new agreements with partners in the flexo market, having the possibility to offer a wide range of doctor blades, cleaning products and measuring devices for anilox and flexo plates.
The company also said it’s able to perform upgrades and retrofitting of machinery, giving the chance to the customers to exchange obsolete equipment to ones present in the market
UK • DS Smith Plc, a recycled corrugated packaging provider in Europe, announced the acquisition of TRM Packaging Ltd (TRM). TRM is a producer of specialist corrugated packaging and retail-ready packaging, located in the North West of England and employs about 270 people.
GERMANY • Siegwerk Druckfarben AG & Co. KGaA, a supplier of printing inks for packaging applications, labels and catalogues, has signed a contract to purchase the printing ink manufacturer Actega Colorchemie GmbH and its subsidiaries. The transaction is subject to approval by the competition authorities.

UK • FFP Packaging, located in Northampton, says Asahi Photoproducts is helping it meet increased demands on its flexible packaging printing with its platinum print platform. The company specializes in high quality flexographic printed flexible packaging, heat seal lidding films and films for high temperature or oven use.
FFP, with its 140 employees, said Asahi helps it achieve higher quality than in the past, reduce costs and turnaround time.
USA • Comex announced it will install an ML1 laminator in the Coveris facilities in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Coveris develops products that protect food, medical supplies and touchscreen devices, among other things.

The purpose of the group, according to the company is facilitating discussion regarding any issues facing flexo printers.
