UK • According to the latest research from Smithers Pira, digital print for packaging is worth USD 13.2 billion in 2017, and will climb to USD 23.2 billion in 2022. As such it represents a key growth area for the print industry, as well as opening new market opportunities for packaging converters and their brand customers.
Ultraviolet (UV) printing has been in mainstream use in labels and packaging for many years. It was adopted because of the many benefits it offered: fast curing for enhanced productivity, high colour strength for improved graphic reproduction, applicability with a wide range of substrates, absence of solvents and VOCs, high gloss and durable finishes.
Comexi has recently announced a partnership with HP to produce a new line of laminators particularly suited to digital printing. The new line is designed to make short print runs easier and more profitable while greatly reducing the processes overall environmental footprint.

INDIA – The Indian army unit Counter Insurgency Force (CIF) Kilo has collaborated with packaging and processing solutions company Tetra Pak India to undertake an environment project to recycle used cartons.
SWITZERLAND • The holding has acquired an 80% shareholding in the Rotoflex Group. The management, which holds the remaining 20% of shares in the company, remains unchanged. Rotoflex will continue to act independently within the group with its brand.
