USA • The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) announced the call for entries for its 2017 Excellence in Flexography Awards. This competition recognizes and celebrates the outstanding print jobs achieved by an industry always championing for progress, the association said.
SWEDEN • Stora Enso announced it will invest EUR 6.6 million in its corrugated packaging business with a new corrugated cutting machine with high-quality printing in the Jönköping factory and a smaller upgrade of the cutting system in the Skene factory.

ITALY • The European technical flexo assocation, FTA Europe, announced its first best practice workshop will be in Milan on 13-14 September, with the help of the Italian Flexographic Technical Association (ATIF).
USA • The FTA announced it would offer a training course at its fall conference in Kentucky 10-12 October. Training can be challenging and the FTA’s session will tackle this topic in a 75-minute “Developing Productive, Profitable Talent—A Trainer’s Guide to Success” session will take place on 11 October from 8:30 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.
CZECH REPUBLIC • Soma announced a planned multi-million Euro investment, which will include a reconstruction project to increase the assembly hall floor space, which will cost EUR 8 million. It also plans to launch a 10-colour version of the Optima2 as well as a version with extra long repeat length of 1,200 mm (47.2”).

AUSTRALIA • Amcor Rigid Plastics has announced the appointment of Ashish Saxena as vice president and general manager of LiquiForm Group LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amcor. He will be based at Amcor’s Saline, Michigan facility in the United States and will report directly to Amcor Rigid Plastics president Michael Schmitt.

USA • Overwraps Packaging announced today that it will change its name to Overwraps Flexibles as it also changes its logo and will commission a new, 10-colour flexographic Comexi press. The company also recently installed a new solventless adhesive laminator and three new high-speed duplex slitters.

DENMARK • Vetaphone has appointed Theodore Wolski as area sales manager for North America. He will take over responsibility for managing Vetaphone’s agents. Wolksi, who holds a Masters in International Business Management, brings a wealth of domestic and international sales experience working with OEMs and end users.

FINLAND • Amerplast, a bag converter and flexible packaging manufacturer, purchased a Bobst 20SIX CS flexographic printing machine, the company announced, and plans to install the machine at the company’s factory in Tampere. The investment follows the 2015 installation of a Miraflex printing machine at the company’s Polish factory in Grodzisk Mazowiecki.
