USA • Air Motion Systems (AMS) announced it will fit a flexo LED-UV curing system to a new Uteco Onyx 8C-CI press due for delivery to flexible packaging print specialist La Gerunda Merletti, near Milan, Italy, in late summer.
The press is specified with eight 1.2 metre wide (3.9 ft) printing stations, each with an AMS Peak LED-UV CI XP series curing lamp
GERMANY • Cosmo Films, a manufacturer of speciality BOPP films, will launch its new range of lamination films under the Luxotique brand at drupa. The new range consists of the new improvised velvet, scuff free matte and digital lamination films.
The company said its portfolio was designed with the needs of luxury packaging and high-end graphic lamination industries in mind
USA • The Flexographic Technology Association (FTA) awarded Mac Papers Envelope Converters (MPEC), a Florida-based sister company of Mac Papers, Inc., with five 2016 FTA Awards in recognition of envelope print excellence. The awards were issued during the organization’s 2016 FTA Award Show, held in Texas.

USA • Nestlé confirmed that Michelman’s Digiprime 4431, 050, 680, and Michem In-Line Primer 030 is compliant with its inks guidance document. The document refers to the Nestlé Packaging Safety and Compliance Program and specifically addresses printing inks, lacquers, coatings and varnishes used on Nestlé packaging materials and is designed to prevent packaging incidents and recalls.

USA • The Comexi Group announced the sale of a nine station gravure press to American Packaging Corporation (APC) to be operational in February 2017. DENMARK • Following two years of development its client, RC Group, Glunz & Jensen introduced the Flexscan 1800. Designed as an element in the flexo prepress production line, the Flexscan 1800 enables trade shops and converters to control sleeve quality before going on press, which prevents production stops and optimises press runs.
Glunz & Jensen said it can cut repro time up to 80 % on each sleeve or adaptor and that the machine will deliver a return on investment within a maximum of 2 years, depending on the amount of sleeves produced
ITALY • The Italian Manufacturers’ Association of Machinery for the Graphic, Converting and Paper Industry (ACIMGA ) reports that the sector of printing, converting and package manufacturing machines for any kind of industrial use had an excellent 2015.

GERMANY • Renzmann, a manufacturer of washing machines and distillation units for the graphic arts industry, focuses its drupa stand (D39 in Hall 16) on optimizing industrial washing processes.
The Rotomax-e 20 distillation unit has a distillation output between 60 and 120 liters (16 and 32 gallons) of solvent per hour and achieves a recovery rate of approximately 94 percent
USA • PRIMIR, the Print Industries Market Information and Research Organization, the research unit of NPES, announced eight new research studies completed in 2015 are available to the general public. It also announced its summer meeting will take place 22-24 June at the Hyatt Place Downtown in Denver, Colorado.

UK • A new report, The Future of Smart Packaging to 2021, predicts the global smart packaging market value will grow during the five year period to 2021 at an annual rate of 7.5% to EUR 6.9 billion.
BELGIUM • The European Flexographic Industry Association (EFIA) awarded a 2016 “Gold Award” for sustainable manufacturing and product innovation to Asahi Photoproducts for its pinning technology for clean transfer. The technology can improve ink transfer, reduce dot gain by reducing ink filling at the mid-tone area and can improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
