Printing ink systems for flexible packaging have undergone major developments over the past decades – now is the time for a review. What is the status quo and what can we expect in the future?
SPAIN • Allservices Aufer, a service, spare parts and consumables alternative in the rotogravure cylinder production market has made new agreements with partners in the flexo market, having the possibility to offer a wide range of doctor blades, cleaning products and measuring devices for anilox and flexo plates.
The company also said it’s able to perform upgrades and retrofitting of machinery, giving the chance to the customers to exchange obsolete equipment to ones present in the market
UK • DS Smith Plc, a recycled corrugated packaging provider in Europe, announced the acquisition of TRM Packaging Ltd (TRM). TRM is a producer of specialist corrugated packaging and retail-ready packaging, located in the North West of England and employs about 270 people.
THE NETHERLANDS • Stefan Kraft joined Polymount International as its new global sales director at the beginning of 2016. Kraft will support the company’s sales team to secure growth and to expand its presence globally. He is also directly responsible for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Kraft studied prepress in the Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart and has a Master in Packaging Technology from the International Packaging Institute in Switzerland
GERMANY • Siegwerk Druckfarben AG & Co. KGaA, a supplier of printing inks for packaging applications, labels and catalogues, has signed a contract to purchase the printing ink manufacturer Actega Colorchemie GmbH and its subsidiaries. The transaction is subject to approval by the competition authorities.

GERMANY • Hell Gravure Systems will be unveiling two engravers and one direct laser system for gravure and flexographic printing under the motto “High performance and high quality” at drupa 2016.

USA • Anilox roll supplier Harper Corporation of America announced Brad Windsor and Shawn Scheel have joined the Harper team. Scheel is accountable for anilox roll sales to wide web customers throughout the Central Plains and Southwestern states.
Both have more than 20 years of experience in the flexographic printing industry
One of the restrictions for the digital printing of flexible substrates has been the feasibility of lamination. Recently, some suppliers developed laminating machines, adhesives and primers which they consider a solution. But have they really solved all the issues?
SPAIN • The supplier will show a new flexography printing press at drupa 2016 at its stand in Hall10/B20. The machine is a further development of the previous FI. According to Comexi Group, it will allow improved automation in the printing process.

DENMARK • Vetaphone has announced it’s appointed Karsten Koch as area sales manager for Europe. Koch has a degree in international sales and marketing and 24 years of international sales experience in the packaging industry, having formerly worked for Danapak Flexibles (Constantia Packaging), Bemis and Smurfit Kappa.

UK • Meech International announced an addition to its Hyperion range of static control systems, the 959IPS ionising air curtain. The new unit is designed to provide static neutralisation and dust removal across the plastics and packaging industries.
The unit is energy efficient and cuts compressed air demand by up to 70%, the company said, reducing running costs
THE NETHERLANDS • DG press will show a new Thallo printing unit and a refurbished Vision unit at drupa 2016 in hall 10 at stand D02. Moreover, the companey will exhibit a business scan and a webshop for spare parts, which will be a Drupa launch.

JAPAN • Fujifilm Corporation announced it will be using drupa as the platform to unveil a new LED-UV inkjet press suitable for flexible packaging applications.
UK • FFP Packaging, located in Northampton, says Asahi Photoproducts is helping it meet increased demands on its flexible packaging printing with its platinum print platform. The company specializes in high quality flexographic printed flexible packaging, heat seal lidding films and films for high temperature or oven use.
FFP, with its 140 employees, said Asahi helps it achieve higher quality than in the past, reduce costs and turnaround time.
