ACW-Film – Reduces ink after adopting GSE Dispensing’s Colorsat Compact
THE NETHERLANDS • Flexible packaging producer ACW-Film GmbH can now reduce material waste, attain better colour consistency and safely dispense solvent flexo and gravure inks after installing a Colorsat Compact system from GSE Dispensing according to the supplier.
Part of the Melitta Group, ACW supplies the confectionery, meat and sausage and detergent packaging markets. Until the Colorsat Compact’s installation, ACW’s prepress staff mixed the colours manually. Because almost every job needed special colours, mixing involved excessive material waste and makeready time, with inconsistent quality results.
Installed in October 2016, the Colorsat Compact ink dispenser serves ACW’s three solvent ink presses – two common-impression flexo, one gravure – that convert films, top-films and bags. By automating the mixing process, GSE claims Compact can dispense to an accuracy of one gram per component, with a 20 kg recipe typically dispensed within two-and-a-half minutes. The dispenser can also enable the reuse of inks returned from the press, allowing for better stock management and a cleaner ink kitchen.
According to GSE, set-up times are reduced, ink yields are improved, and delays from inaccurate colour eliminated. Logistics may also be simplified as Compact can reduce the number of ACW’s components from more than 50 to 34.
