SWITZERLAND • At the Brussels Expo, 25-28 September 2017, the partners plan to unveil what they claim is the first industrial end-to-end digital narrow-web solution for the safe mass-personalization of indirect food contact flexible packaging and labels.

According to common belief, digital printing hasn’t been successfully used for flexible packaging until recently. The Irish printer Fox Packaging (formerly Foster Packaging) has successfully proved that for years package printing with flexible, film-based substrates has been possible with a digital press.
RUSSIA • The US flexible packaging specialist Sealed Air Corporation has begun production at a new EUR 9.5 million food packaging plant at Volgograd in south western Russia.

RUSSIA • Mondi Group has announced it has acquired 100% of the outstanding share capital of ZAO Uralplastic-N (Uralplastic) from Joint Stock Company Rusnano and a private investor. Uralplastic operates one plant in the Ural region and manufactures a range of consumer flexible packaging products for food, hygiene, homecare and other applications.

POLAND • Mondi Group has signed an agreement to acquire the SIMET S.A. corrugated plant located in Grabonóg, near Poznań. The plant produces a wide range of flexo printed packaging including American cases, die-cut and multipoint folder-glued boxes. The acquisition is subject to Polish competition clearance and other customary conditions.
